Anemia in pregnancy is a global problem it is related to socioeconomic status of society. Anemia in pregnancy is caused by the increase volume of plasma without the increase mass of red blood cells. The level of hemoglobin is lower than normal. The aim of this research was to investigate anemia in pregnant women at Gandus Sub-distric of Palembang City in 2016 by using descriptive research design with cross sectional approach. The measurement of hemoglobin used automatic method. The samples were 35 pregnant women taken by using proportional random sampling. The results showed 10 women (28.6%) were anemic and 25 women (71.4%) were not anemic. Based on age, 1 (20%) of 5 pregnant women at risk age were anemic and 9 (30%) of 30 pregnant women at unrisk age were anemic. Based on parity, 4 (28.6%) of 14 pregnant women on nullipara group were anemic, 2 (25%) of 8 pregnant women on primipara group were anemic and 4 (30.8%) of 13 pregnant women on multipara group were anemic. Based on pregnancy interval, 10 (31.25%) of 32 pregnant women with ideal interval were anemic and none of 3 pregnant women with not ideal interval who anemic. Based on iron-tablet intake, 3 (50%) of 6 pregnant women with enough intake were anemic and 7 (24.1%) of 29 pregnant women with not enough intake were anemic. Based on economic status, 5 (29.4%) of 17 pregnant women with low economic status were anemic and 5 (27.8%) of 18 pregnant women with high economic status were anemic. Therefore, it is suggested to the society especially pregnant women to keep consuming food that is rich in iron in order to keep hemoglobin values in normal range.
