Background: A bad impact occurs in pulmonary tuberculosis patients if oxygen is
reduced they will experience shortness of breath which will interfere with the
oxygenation process, if not fulfilled it will cause disrupted cell metabolism and
damage to brain tissue if the problem lasts long it will cause death.
Methods: The design of this study used a descriptive method. The sampling method
used was purposive sampling with 2 respondents, namely patients with a nursing
diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis operating in the Ahmad Dahlan Inpatient
Room, Palembang Muhammadiyah Hospital, in March 2022. The data of this study
were taken using interviews, observations and physical examinations carried out
descriptively. And presented in a narrative.
Results: The research obtained is the problem of ineffective airway clearance
caused by physiological changes in patients with patient data complaining of
shortness of breath, persistent coughing with phlegm and difficulty in expelling
phlegm, implementation of ineffective airway clearance nursing in the form of
effective coughing exercises and oxygen therapy, helping patients in reducing
problems Clearing the airway is not effective, with the patient’s response to reduced
shortness of breath and coughing up phlegm can be partially expelled.
Conclusion: The results of the study illustrate the need for effective cough training
interventions to reduce the problem of ineffective airway clearance.
