Description
Intercity bus drivers is one of the occupation in Palembang. They usually work from one place to another in unhealthy lifestyle. Unhealthy lifestyle will cause various diseases, such as elevated uric acid. This study was to determine the level of uric acid of intercity bus drivers in Palembang. The type of research was descriptive research with cross sectional approach. The analysis of uric acid used digital instrument with electode base biosensor method. Sample size were 41 bus drivers. The results showed that the average level of uric acid of the drivers was
5.8 mg/dL and 8 drivers (19.5%) with high purine intake. Based on purine intake,
4 drivers (40%) with high purine intake and 4 drivers (13.8%) with medium purine intake showed high level of uric acid. Based on nutritional status, 5 drivers (31.35%) with heavy nutritional status, 1 driver (5.3%) with normal nutritional status, and 2 drivers (33.3%) with thin nutritional status showed high level of uric acid. Based on knowledge of nutrition, 5 drivers (31.35%) with bad knowledge, 3 drivers (33.3%) with good knowledge showed high level of uric acid. Based on water intake, 5 drivers (15.6%) with normal water intake, and 3 drivers (33.3%) with abnormal water intake showed high level of uric acid. Based on age, 5 drivers (29.4%) with aged <40 years old and 3 drivers (12.5%) aged ≥ 40 years old showed high level of uric acid. It is suggested to the bus drivers to keep their health by consuming less purine, drinking more water, and doing exercise regularly.
