Background: Airway, Breathing (spontaneous breathing) and Circulation (blood circulation)
disorders are emergency conditions that can cause death if immediate help is not given. This study
aims to obtain an overview of improving the ability of special lay people (security guards) in

providing basic life support after basic life support training is carried out. Methods: This is a pre-
experimental research with pre and post test design. The sample was ten security guards from the

Palembang Ministry of Health Poltekkes, which were determined by purposive sampling. Data was
collected through questionnaires and a wide observation check list. The analysis was carried out
univariate and bivariate through the T Dependent test. Results: The research analysis showed that
there was a significant increase in knowledge and skills about BLS after BLS training using the
group competition method, p-value 0.0001. Conclusion: The training program with the group
competition method increases the ability of Basic life support.
