Background: Diabetes Mellitus is know as a disease related to nutritional
problems. Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that requires good nutritional
management, non-adherence to diet and eating patterns will result in instability of
glucose in the blood.
Methods: This research design uses a case study design with a descriptive method
with a nursing care approach that includes assessment, diagnosis nursing,
planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation. The case study subjects
in this study amounted to two cases of Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients with the
same nursing problem, namely Nutritional Deficit.
Results: Based on the results of the study conducted on patient 1 who was 39
years old with a body weight of 47 kg and BMI 18,3 and in patient 2 who was 67
years old with a weight of 48 kg and BMI 18,7, it was found that there was a
problem of nutritional deficits in both patients with Type II DM medical diagnosis.
After the implementation was given in the form of identification of nutritional
status (BMI), oral hygiene measures, and DM diet education, it was found that the
problem of nutritional deficits in patients was resolved marked by an increase in
weight and BMI during nursing implementation.
Conclusion: Implementation in the form of identification of nutritional status
(BMI), oral hygiene measures, and DM diet education in both patients have been
carried out in the research field.
