Muhammadiyah Hospital Palembang in 2022. Diploma III Nursing Study

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by increased
blood sugar levels caused by the pancreas not being able to produce insulin.
Methods: The type of research used is descriptive in the form of case studies with
data collection methods by means of interviews and physical examination. The
subjects of the study were two patients with type II diabetes mellitus with
nutritional deficit problems at Muhammadiyah Hospital in Palembang. The
nursing implementation approach used includes identification of nutritional status:
BMI, oral hygiene and providing education on diabetes mellitus diet. This study
was conducted to compare two respondents who had been given implementation
for three days. Results: The study showed that after three days of
implementation, the problem of nutritional deficit experienced by patients with
weight experienced an increase in BMI of patient I to 18.5 and BMI of patient II
to 17.96, improved oral hygiene, and increased knowledge. Conclusion: in
overcoming nutritional deficits in patients with type II diabetes mellitus, there is
no gap between theory and implementation in the field.
