Background : Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death for children under
the age of five. Based on medical record data at the Siti Fatimah Hospital, there
are as many as 1-5 years old children who suffer from diarrhea, in 2019 there
were 9 patients, in 2020 there were 5 patients, in 2021 there were 15 patients.
Children who have diarrhea will lose body fluids, causing body dehydration. This
makes the body unable to function properly and can be life threatening. For this
reason, fluid management nursing actions are needed to treat diarrhea in
children.Methods: This type of research design uses a descriptive design in the
form of a case study. The approach used is a nursing care approach which
includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation and
documentation. The case study subjects used were 2 pediatric patients suffering
from diarrhea aged 1-5 years who had the same nursing problem, namely the risk
of fluid imbalance. This research was conducted at Siti Fatimah Hospital
Palembang in 2022. Results: Implementation of nursing in the form of fluid
management has an effect on reducing the frequency of liquid defecation that
occurs in children. This is evident from the frequency of bowel movements in
both patients decreased every day. Suggestion: It is hoped that the patient's family
can recognize the signs of diarrhea in children so that they are able to manage
diarrhea in children.
