ABSTRACT
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not
produce insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
Diabetes mellitus is ranked 6th as a cause of death. Many people do not know
about type II diabetes mellitus because of a lack of knowledge about diabetes.
Knowledge is formed after a person perceives an object. Knowledge of DM
patients about the disease and its complications can contribute to preventing
diabetic ulcers. The better the patient understands about his illness, the more he
understands how to change his behavior. Diabetes can cause nerve damage
throughout the body when blood glucose and blood pressure are too high. The
purpose of this study was to find out how the knowledge of type II diabetes
mellitus patients at the Makrayu Health Center Palembang. This type of research
is a quantitative descriptive research. Data were collected using the Diabetes
Knowledge Questionnaire 24 (DKQ-24). The sampling technique or sampling
technique in this study used the purvosive sampling method with the
determination of inclusion and exclusion sample criteria. The number of samples
was 53 respondents at the Makrayu Health Center Palembang. With the research
results that have been obtained indicate that the knowledge of respondents is
categorized as low (96.2%). It is expected for nursing services to provide
counseling to diabetic patients about diabetes, so that patients have knowledge
about type II diabetes mellitus.
