ABSTRACT
Hypertension or High Blood Pressure is a problem that has a high risk of causing
coronary heart disease, kidney failure and stroke. Handling hypertension can be
done pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically with lavender aromatherapy.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving lavender
aromatherapy on blood pressure in patients with hypertension at the Alang-Alang
Lebar Public Health Center Palembang. Using the Quasy-Experimental method
with a non-equivalent control group design. The number of respondents as many
as 30 people were taken by purpose sampling which was divided into two groups.
The treatment group was given lavender aromatherapy using a diffuser
containing 5 drops of lavender essential oil and 20 ml of water for 10 minutes.
Data was collected by measuring blood pressure before and after giving lavender
aromatherapy. The analysis used is Univariate and Bivariate analysis with MannWithney test.
The results of this study indicate that the systolic blood pressure in the treatment
and control groups using the Mann-Withney test is known to have a P value of
0.001 and the diastolic blood pressure of the treatment and control groups shows
a P value of 0.003 where the p value < 0.05 indicates that the P value of systolic
and diastolic blood pressure smaller than 0.05.
The conclusion from the results of the study was that there was an effect of giving
lavender aromatherapy on blood pressure in patients with hypertension at the
Alang-Alang Lebar Public Health Center Palembang. It is hoped that
hypertensive patients can use lavender aromatherapy as an alternative to lower
blood pressure.
