ABSTRACT
Background: Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease problem with a
very high prevalence, including in Indonesia. Hypertension is the biggest
comorbid factor that causes death from COVID19. Hypertension can cause
problems with low quality of life. Smoking and sleep quality can affect the quality
of life of people with hypertension. Purposes: The purpose of this study was to see
the relationship between sleep quality and smoking with quality of life of
hypertensive patients during the COVID-19 period. Methods: Method using a
cross sectional approach. Sampling in this study is a non-probability sampling
technique with a purposive sampling approach of 70 respondents. Data collection
using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire (PSQI), Smoking
questionnaire with the Brinkman Index, and the EuroQol-5 Dimension
questionnaire. Results: The results of the analysis used the Chi-Square test and
the Mann-Whitney test. Results It shows that the average respondent is 60.31
years old, female 67.1%, normal body mass index 58.6%, average systolic blood
pressure is 148.43 mmHg, average diastolic blood pressure is 92.07 mmHg, poor
sleep quality 60%, not smoking 75.7%, average smoking degree 57.24, poor
quality of life 62.9%. The results of the analysis showed that the quality of sleep
with quality of life (p value 0.0005), smoking habits with quality of life (p value
0.028), the degree of smoking with quality of life (p value 0.022). Conclusion: It
was concluded that there was a relationship between sleep quality and smoking
with the quality of life of patients with hypertension. The results of this study can
be input for health workers to provide health education about the importance of
maintaining the quality of sleep and smoking during this Covid-19 period, so that
it is expected to improve a good quality of life for people with hypertension
