Plak bisa dibersihkan secara mekanis maupun kimiawi. Salah satu cara untuk membersihkan plak adalah dengan cara mengkonsumsi buah apel, karena apel mengandung tannin yang bersifat sebagai pengelat (astringent) yang bersifat spasmolotik dan sebagai antiseptic. Dan melalui kandungan seratnya yang dapat membersihkan sisa plak gigi dengan cara menggigit dan mengunyah menjadikan buah apel mempunyai daya self cleansing. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis mencoba meneliti Buah Apel Sebagai Self Cleansing Terhadap Penurunan Skor Plak yang dilakukan di MI Tarbiyah Islamiyah Palembang Tahun 2018. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah survei analitik. Adapun sampel penelitian ini sama yaitu 60 orang yang terdiri dari 30 orang mengkonsumsi buah apel dan 30 orang tidak mengkonsumsi buah apel dengan jumlah populasi sebanyak 189 orang. Teknik pengambilan sampel diambil dari populasi Non Random dengan menggunakan teknik Purposive Sampling, yaitu didasarkan pada suatu pertimbangan tertentu yang dibuat oleh peneliti sendiri berdasarkan ciri atau sifat-sifat populasi yang sudah diketahui sebelumnya, dan analisa data yang digunakan adalah analisa data Bivariat dengan pengujian statistik Chi Square dengan uji Kolmogorov Smirnov Z menunjukan hasil P=0,000, yang berarti terdapat hubungan yang signifikan (p<0,05) antara mengkonsumsi buah apel terhadap penurunan skor plak. Salah satu jenis tanaman yang bisa dijadikan sebagai sumber pewarna alami dan mengandung antosianin adalah buah senduduk (Melastoma malabathricum L.). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat degradasi warna usia plak dan pH plak yang ditimbulkan oleh buah senduduk (Melastoma malabathricum L) dengan membandingkan Disclossing Solution (Tri Plaque Gel) pada Mahasiswa Jurusan Keperawatan Gigi Poltekkes Palembang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi experimental dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Subjek penelitian ini berjumlaah 20 sampel dibagi 2 kelompok masing-masing 10 orang, terdiri dari kelompok perlakuan penetesan buah senduduk (Melastoma Malabathricum L) dan kelompok perlakuan penetesan Disclossing Solution ( Tri Plaque Gel). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Degradasi warna dalam pewarnaan plak yang ditimbulkan oleh buah senduduk (Melastoma Malabacthicum L) adalah jika plak semakin tua warnanya akan semakin pekat yang dimulai dari warna yang muda atau rendah (pink/merah), sedang (ungu) hingga warna yang pekat (biru). Buah senduduk (Melastoma Malabacthicum L) dapat melihat perubahan warna pada derajat keasaman (pH) yang drastis, perubahan warna dari merah muda sampai ungu yang menunjukkan bahwa pH asam basa dapat dilihat dari warna yang timbul. pH asam warna yang timbul terang sedangkan pH basa warna yang timbul pekat.
