Karbon monoksida yang terhirup oleh perokok dapat menggantikan kedudukan oksigen dalam sel darah dan membentuk karboksihemoglobin. Hal ini berhubugan dengan peningkatan secara perlahan terhadap nilai hemoglobin, hematokrit, dan indeks eritrosit. Hematokrit dapat digunakan sebagai tes skrining anemia berdasarkan tingkat kekentalan darah. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui gambaran nilai hematokrit pada mahasiswa perokok dikota Palembang tahun 2019 berdasarkan lama merokok, kategori perokok dan jenis rokok. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Sampel penelitian adalah darah vena mahasiswa perokok sebanyak 36 sampel. Hasil diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 45,9%. Berdasarkan lama merokok, pada perokok relatif baru diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 45,4%, sedangkan pada perokok relatif lama diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 46,7%. Berdasarkan kategori perokok, pada perokok ringan diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 46,6 %, dan pada perokok sedang diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 45%, sedangkan pada perokok berat diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 45,3%. Berdasarkan jenis rokok, pada perokok pengguna rokok filter diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 46%, sedangkan perokok pengguna rokok nonfilter diperoleh rata-rata nilai hematokrit 45,3%. Berdasarkan nilai hematokrit tersebut, semua nilai berada dalam rentang nilai normal. Disarankan agar melakukan penelitian lanjut dengan meneliti faktor-faktor lainnya seperti dehidrasi setelah olahraga.
