Description
Background: Appendicitis is a disease of the human digestive system or often called appendicitis caused by bacterial infection Appendicitis is the most common emergency in the abdomen and the incidence of appendicitis is still high in the world and in Indonesia. With the increasing incidence of appendicitis in society or individuals who often ignore the nutrition of the food they consume, it is not uncommon for these individuals to experience difficulty defecating, which will increase pressure in the intestinal cavity and will eventually cause blockage of the appendicitis duct, nausea, vomiting, pain in the abdomen, discomfort. This appendicitis incident can also cause intestinal perforation so it is not uncommon for surgery to occur. The nursing problems arising from appendicitis are acute pain. One very effective nursing intervention to manage pain is a warm compress. The goal is to overcome acute pain.
Method: This case study design is a descriptive design in the form of a case study with a nursing care process approach. The subjects of the case study were 4 patients in the Emergency Department with the same criteria of appendicitis with acute pain problems. This case study was conducted at the Emergency Department of Bhayangkara Hospital Palembang in 2023 on April 20, April 28, May 5 and May 10, 2023. Using data collection techniques by observation and interviews. Results: Pain management provided in the form of pain scale assessment, giving warm compresses, providing deep breath relaxation education, and administering analgetic drugs to appendicitis patients to reduce pain, in patient 1 before pain management measures pain scale 7 to 6, patient 2 pain scale before 7 to 6, patient 3 pain scale 7 to 5, patient 4 pain scale 6 to 4.
conclusion: After performing deep breathing relaxation techniques and warm compresses in the healing process of acute appendicitis patients with acute pain in the Emergency Room, the fourth patient's pain decreased
