Subject

Subjective Well-Being

Description

Background: Subjective well-being is a person's assessment of his overall life satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to test the validity of subjective well-being and to determine the changes in subjective well-being scores of the Indonesian productive age population from 2007 to 2014. Methods: This research is a retrospective cohort study using Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) data. This study examined the respondents aged 15-57 years in IFLS4 (in 2007) and then repeated measurements in IFLS5 2014. The sample of this study was 8,920 individuals. The subjective well-being is constructed from the eight proposed indicators. The subjective well-being construct test uses confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results: From the analysis, it was found that the eight indicators had good validity (SLF>0.3) to measure subjective well-being. The mean subjective well-being score in 2007 is 1.04 and increased by 0.77 points in 2014. Conclusion: Subjective well-being can be information that complements objective well-being indicators that reflect the success of a nation's development.
