Background : Patients who experience problems with auditory hallucinations if
not handled properly can pose a risk to the safety of the patient and others.
Conversing with other people is one of the efforts that can be done to reduce the
appearance of hallucinations in patients. However, research exploring the benefits
of conversing is still very limited.
Methods : This case study study aims to describe the implementation of
conversational nursing techniques for auditory hallucinations patients conducted
at the Mitra Mulia Banyuasin Foundation, South Sumatra. This case study
research is descriptive, with the implementation method using nursing care. The
research data was taken by means of the assessment process, interviews, and
direct observation. Conducted from January 31 to February 06, 2022. The subjects
of the case study were three patients with auditory hallucinations.
Results : After implementation on patients, it was found that speaking was
effective in controlling auditory hallucinations. However, the inhibiting factor
during implementation was that the researcher could not see directly the patient
applying the way of conversing when his hallucinations appeared.
Conclusion : Conversation is effective to control the hallucinations experienced
by patients because it can divert patients from listening to unreal voices into real
conversations.
