Subject
breastfeeding education, and oxytocin massage technique
Description
Background : Oxytocin massage is one solution to overcome the non-smooth milk
production. Oxytocin massage is a massage along the spine (vertebrae) from the
protruding neck bones (processus spinosus) to the fifth-sixth ribs extending to the
scapula which will accelerate the work of the parasympathetic nerves to convey
commands to the brain so that the release of the hormone oxytocin increases and is an
attempt to stimulate prolactin and oxytocin after delivery. This massage serves to
increase the hormone oxytocin which can calm the mother, so that milk will
automatically come out, then oxytocin will stimulate the contraction of myoepithelial
cells in the breast for spraying milk.
Methods: The design of this case study is a case study to explore the problem of
nursing implementation in patients implementing oxytocin massage with ineffective
breastfeeding problems in post SC patients at Muhammadiyah Hospital in Palembang
City. The approach used is a nursing care approach which includes assessment,
nursing diagnosis, planning, evaluation, and documentation.
Results: The study found that the problem of breast milk production was resolved by
providing breastfeeding education and oxytocin massage techniques to overcome
breastfeeding problems. The implementation of oxytocin massage is able to help
patients in overcoming the problem of milk production.
Conclusion: The results of the study illustrate the need for an oxytocin massage
technique intervention to overcome the problem of breastfeeding.
