Background: Background: Physiological needs are things that are absolutely
fulfilled by humans to survive. A fracture is a break in the continuity of the bone,
which is usually caused by trauma or physical exertion. Postoperative pain is a
problem that often occurs in postoperative fracture patients. The problem raised in
this case study is acute pain in postoperative fracture patients. The purpose of this
case study is to implement pain management in postoperative fracture patients
with cold compresses.
Methods : The design of this research is described in the form of a case study.
The approach used is a nursing care approach which includes assessment, nursing
diagnoses, planning, implementation, evaluation, and nursing documentation. The
subjects in this study were 2 people with the same criteria, namely postoperative
fracture patients. This research was conducted at Siti Fatimah Hospital, South
Sumatra Province, on March 19, 2022 and April 9, 2022.
Results : The results showed that pain management with non-pharmacological
techniques in the form of cold compresses was effective in reducing pain in
postoperative fracture patients. In patient 1 before pain management was carried
out with non-pharmacological techniques in the form of cold compresses on a
pain scale of 6, after cold compresses were carried out for 5-10 minutes for three
days, the pain scale became 3. Whereas for patient 2 before pain management was
carried out with non-pharmacological techniques in the form of cold compresses,
the pain scale was 7, after cold compresses were carried out for 5-10 minutes for
three days, the pain scale became 3.
Conclusion : The application of cold compresses that have been carried out can
reduce the level of pain felt by postoperative fracture patients. Families are able to
increase knowledge related to pain and apply it so that when other family
members experience pain, appropriate treatment can be carried out.
