Background: Wound care is one of the actions taken in patients with diabetes mellitus
which aims to restore the damaged surface layer of the skin so that pain is reduced and
minimizes the risk of skin tissue damage. Methods: This research design uses a
descriptive method in the form of a case study with data collection methods by means of
interviews and physical examination. Research subject as many as 2 respondents,
namely Diabetes Mellitus patients with skin integrity problems who were hospitalized
in the internal medicine room at Muhammadiyah Hospital Palembang, in March 2022.
The nursing implementation approach used included wound care and energy
management. This study was conducted to compare 2 respondents who had been given
implementation for 3 days.Results: After implementing wound care nursing for 3 days
with implementation 1 time per day in the morning, the conclusions obtained were the
condition of the wound looked wet but slightly bleeding, clean, still festering and there
was necrotic on the heel of the foot, the wound was black and smelled.Conclusion: The
results of the study illustrate the need for wound care to reduce the risk of further
infection in patients with diabetes mellitus with problems with impaired skin integrity.
