Description
ABSTRACT
Background Adolescent girls are indeed an age that is very vulnerable to problems
with menstrual cycle disorders, especially in adolescents who are currently
studying. There are several factors that affect the menstrual cycle such as disturbed
hormone function, physical activity, body mass index, endocrine disorders, and
stress. Objective: This study aims to identify the relationship between physical
activity and body mass index on the menstrual cycle in adolescent girls at SMK
Kesehatan Athalla Putra Palembang. Methods: This type of research is an analytic
survey with a cross sectional design, with a sample size of 80 respondents using
random sampling technique. Bivariate data analysis with chi square. Results:
There is a significant relationship between physical activity and the menstrual
cycle. There is a relationship between the age of menarche and the menstrual cycle.
There is no relationship between Body Mass Index and the menstrual cycle.
Discussion and suggestions: The physical activity variable in Athalla Putra
Palembang Health Vocational School students is classified as the majority having
moderate physical activity so that the results show that most have regular menstrual
cycles. For the variable age of menarche, it shows that the average student has a
normal age of menarche. Body Mass Index is a variable that has no relationship
with the menstrual cycle because there is a gap in the number of samples where
most of the respondents have normal BMI values. For further researchers, it is
recommended to conduct research with more varied variables and a larger number of samples so as to have maximum research results.
