Description
ABSTRACT
Background : The number of elderly residents in the city of Palembang in
2018 was 122,606 million people and also as a person's age increases, there
will definitely be a degenerative disease in the elderly, one of which is
hypertension, while the number of people with hypertension in the city of
Palembang from January to September 2017 is 6973 people who suffer from
hypertension. every year is always increasing. High blood pressure
(hypertension) can be treated with pharmacological and non-pharmacological
therapies, for example, complementary therapy of herbal water decoction of
salam leaves.
Purpose : This study is to determine the effect of giving boiled water of salam
leaves to the elderly with hypertension at the Harapan Kita Elderly Social
Home in Palembang City in 2021.
Method : This study is a type of experimental research using a research
design in the form of quasi-experimental non-equivalent control groups. The
sampling technique in this study was non-probability sampling using
purposive sampling with 30 respondents, 15 treatment groups and 15 control
groups. Collecting data by measuring blood pressure using a sygmanometer
and stethoscope with the Mann Whitney statistical test.
Result : From the results of the Mann Whitney statistical test, it showed that
the average systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the treatment group
before administration of boiled water of salam leaves was 153.33 mmHg and
diastolic was 92.00 mmHg, while after treatment with boiled water, the
average systolic blood pressure was 141.33 mmHg. and diastolic 83.33 mmHg
respondents. The results of the Mann Whitney analysis revealed that blood
pressure after systolic treatment (p=0.016), while diastolic blood pressure
(p=0.005)
Conculusions : It was concluded that there was an effect of giving nonpharmacological therapy complementary herbal therapy of bay leaf boiled
water on elderly people with hypertension at the Harapan Kita Elderly Social
