Description
Background : Debris is food residue left in the mouth on the surface and on the teeth and gingiva after eating that is not cleaned. Debris can be cleaned by the flow of saliva and the movement of the muscles of the oral cavity during the masticatory process. In addition, there are other ways such as gargling, flossing (using dental floss), cleaning the tongue, chewing gum, avoiding foods that contain sucrose, and consuming more fibrous fruits and vegetables. Research Objectives : The purpose of this study was to determine how to consume papaya and watermelon in reducing debris scores in children on Soekarno Hatta Street, Musi Raya alley, Alang-alang Lebar sub-district, Karya Baru village. Research Methods : This research is an experimental study, the sampling technique used is purposive sampling, with a sample of 32 people. Univariate and Bivariate data analysis was carried out on two paired variables using pre and post test design. Research Results : From the results obtained the average index of debris before consuming papaya fruit was 1.65 and before consuming papaya fruit was 1.437, while before consuming watermelon was 1.587 and before consuming watermelon was 1.2. Paired T-test obtained from (p<0.05) showed a decrease in debris before consuming papaya and watermelon. Conclusion : That consuming watermelon is more effective than consuming papaya.
