Salah satunya adalah rambut. Rambut pada manusia hampir tumbuh di setiap bagian tubuh, namun terdapat bagian-bagian tertentu dari tubuh manusia yang ditumbuhi rambut lebat atau banyak, misalnya kulit kepala manusia, ketiak, dan kemaluan. Namun, yang sering diperhatikan adalah rambut kepala. Salah satu peranannya adalah berfungsi sebagai proteksi terhadap lingkungan luar, seperti suhu dingin atau panas. Pada manusia, rambut tidak hanya bersifat sebagai pelindung tetapi juga berperan menunjang penampilan bagi wanita (Nusmara, 2012), atau dikenal dengan julukan ”mahkota”. Namun julukan tersebut tidak lagi tertuju hanya kepada kaum wanita, namun juga pria (Angendari, 2015). Rambut mengalami proses pertumbuhan dan kerontokan setiap helainya. Meskipun kerontokan alami dari rambut, namun terkadang kuantitas dan frekuensi kerontokan menjadi meningkat sehingga terjadi kebotakan (Nusmara, 2012). Kebotakan biasanya terjadi oleh kondisi fisiologis, stress emosional maupun fisik, usia lanjut, depresi, berkurangnya aktifitas kelenjar minyak dikulit kepala, gangguan pembuluh darah, gangguan hormon, pengaruh kosmetika, pajanan sinar matahari secara terus menerus dan kurangnya makanan yang bergizi untuk kepentingan pertumbuhan rambut (Harrison, 2009). Apabila hal tersebut tidak diperhatikan maka akan memungkinkan terjadinya kerontokan rambut sehingga rambut menjadi tipis bahkan botak, rambut rontok, kulit kepala dan rambut 2 kering, rambut kusam dan sulit diatur serta timbulnya uban sebelum waktunya (Angendari, 2015). Banyak cara untuk mengatasi rambut rontok diantaranya, dengan mengatur pola makan yang baik dan teratur, menerapkan gaya hidup yang sehat, melindungi rambut dari sinar matahari langsung, pijat kulit kepala perlahan setiap hari, dan menggunakan produk bahan alami untuk menstimulus pertumbuhan rambut yang dioleskan pada kulit kepala. Bahan alami yang bisa digunakan untuk menyuburkan rambut diantaranya lidah buaya, bunga sepatu, ginseng, ginkgo biloba, jati putih, tarum, salam koja, gletang, pegagan dan teh (Thorat, 2010). Tanaman teh yang mengandung senyawa kimia theobromin, theofilin, tanin, xanthine, adenine, minyak atsiri, kuersetin, naringenin, natural fluoride, dan polifenol berupa flavonoid beserta turunannya (Dalimartha, 1999) secara tradisional mempunyai banyak khasiat yaitu digunakan untuk mengatasi diare, sakit kepala, mengurangi pembentukan karang gigi, infeksi saluran cerna, kolestrol darah tinggi, menghitamkan rambut dan menyuburkan rambut (Yuniarti, 2008). Polifenol dalam teh lebih dikenal sebagai flavanol atau katekin. Katekin utama dalam teh meliputi epikatekin, epikatekin-3-galat, epigalokatekin, dan epigalokatekin-3-galat (EGCG) (Chacko et al., 2010). Senyawa epigalocatecin-3- gallat (EGCG) yang membuat rambut menjadi subur (Kwon et al., 2007). EGCG merupakan senyawa yang memiliki 15 atom C dalam inti dasarnya yang tersusun dalam konfigurasi C6-C3-C6 yaitu cincin aromatik yang dihubungkan oleh satuan 3 karbon yang dapat atau tidak dapat membentuk cincin. Pegagan dengan kandungan senyawa utama triterfenoid saponin yaitu asiatikoside, flavonoid, fitosterol, madecassid acid, madecassoside, asam asiatik, 3 asam amino, asam lemak, steroid, tanin, alkaloid (Zheng & Qin, 2007) yang mempunyai banyak khasiat yaitu hepatitis, campak, demam, amandel, sakit tenggorokan, bronkitis, mata merah, wasir, keracunan, muntah darah, batuk darah, mimisan, cacingan, lepra, infeksi dan batu saluran kencing (Yuniarti, 2008), dan juga digunakan untuk perawatan rambut rontok (Thorat, 2010). Pada penelitian Jain (2011) ekstrak pegagan 5% b/b yang dikombinasikan dengan ekstrak Emblica officinalis 5% b/b, ekstrak Aloe vera 5% b/b, ekstrak Ocimum sanctum 5% b/b, ekstrak Eclipta alba 5 % b/b yang berbentuk sediaan salep menunjukkan aktivitas sebagai penyubur rambut yang diaplikasikan secara topikal pada tikus. Teh (Camelia sinensis (L.) dan Pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) merupakan jenis tumbuhan yang mudah diperoleh dan sudah sering digunakan secara empiris dalam kehidupan sehari-hari untuk berbagai khasiat (Sulastri, Indrawati, & Taurhesia, 2016). Berdasarkan penelitian Sulastri, dkk (2016) bahwa kombinasi ekstrak air daun teh (Camelia sinensis (L.) dan herba pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) mempunyai aktivitas mempercepat pertumbuhan rambut dengan konsentrasi esktrak air daun teh (5%) dan ekstrak air herba pegagan (2,5%). Berpedoman pada penelitian Sulastri, dkk (2016) dan mengingat belum adanya penelitian yang dilakukan untuk memformulasikan kombinasi esktrak daun teh (Camelia sinensis (L.) dan ekstrak herba pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) dalam bentuk sediaan hair tonic, sehingga penelitian ini diharapkan dapat diketahui apakah ekstrak daun teh (Camelia sinensis (L.) dan ekstrak herba pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan hair tonic yang stabil dan kestabilan fisik yang memenuhi persyaratan. Urban) mengandung senyawa aktif flavonoid, saponin, dan tanin yang memiliki aktifitas antibakteri, memacu pembentukan kolagen dan sebagai astringen. Menurut Dian Reni Agustina (2011) Kombinasi daun sirih merah dan herba pegagan berdasarkan akttivitas farmakologi kedua tanaman dapat terjadi efek sinergis dan aditif sebagai pengobatan luka pada penderita diabetes. Metode: Penelitian yang dilakukan adalah eksperimental. Ekstrak daun sirih merah (Piper crocatum Ruiz. and Puv.) dan herba pegagan (Centella asiatica L. Urban) diformulasikan menjadi sediaan gel dengan memvariasikan konsentrasi Carbopol 940. Konsentrasi zat aktif sirih merah dan herba pegagan yang digunakan dalam setiap formula masing-masing adalah 25% dan 7,5% serta konsentrasi Carbopol 940 yang digunakan pada formula I adalah 1%, pada formulaII adalah 1,5%, pada formula III dan formula kontrol adalah 2%. Kemudian dilakukan uji kestabilan fisik dan uji iritasi kulit. Uji kestabilan fisik meliputi pH, viskositas, homogenitas, daya sebar, warna dan bau. Pengujian dilakukan selama 28 hari penyimpanan. Hasil: Selama 28 hari penyimpanan pH gel cenderung stabil, viskositas mengalami penurunan sedangkan daya sebar mengalami peningkatan. Partikel terdistribusi secara merata serta memiliki warna dan bau yang stabil. Ketiga formula tidak menimbulkan iritasi kulit saat diaplikasikan ke kulit. Kesimpulan: Kombinasi ekstrak daun sirih merah (Piper crocatum Ruiz. and Puv.) dan herba pegagan (Centella asiatica L. Urban) dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan gel yang stabil dan memenuhi persyaratan. Formula yang paling stabil adalah formula II dengan konsentrasi Carbopol 940 sebesar 1,5%.
