Rhodamin B sering digunakan sebagai pewarna makanan karena harganya relatif lebih murah daripada pewarna sintetis untuk pangan. Rhodamin B mengandung senyawa klorin (Cl) yang bersifat karsinogen. Berdasarkan data Kejadian Luar Biasa (KLB) keracunan pangan BBPOM RI menunjukkan bahwa kelompok siswa Sekolah Dasar (SD) paling sering mengalami keracunan Pangan Jajanan Anak Sekolah. Selain itu, berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Paratmanitya tahun 2016 di Yogyakarta Kabupaten Bantul, menunjukkan bahwa 7 (46,7%) dari 15 sampel positif mengandung Rhodamin B. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pewarna sintetis Rhodamin B yang digunakan dalam Pangan Jajanan Anak Sekolah (PJAS) dengan mengacu pada Permenkes RI Nomor 722/Menkes/Per/IX/1988 tentang bahan pewarna sintetis yang diizinkan di Indonesia. Penelitian ini dilakukan dari bulan Februari sampai Juni 2018. Jenis penelitian ini adalah survey dengan uji laboratorium secara kualitatif dengan 21 sampel pangan jajanan yang diuji dengan metode Test Kit CMR (Color Main Reagent) di Laboratorium Kimia Pangan Jurusan Gizi Poltekkes Kemenkes Palembang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 9 dari 21 sampel pangan jajanan positif mengandung pewarna sintetis Rhodamin B yaitu sampel sosis ayam dan sosis sapi yang dijual di SDN 86 Palembang, SD Negeri 66 Palembang, SD Negeri 80 Palembang, SD Negeri 81 Palembang, SD Negeri 74 Palembang, SD Negeri 76 Palembang, SD Negeri 83 Palembang, SD YWKA Palembang. Kesimpulannya 8 dari 13 Sekolah Dasar di Wilayah Kecamatan Seberang Ulu I Palembang masih menggunakan pewarna sintetis Rhodamin B dalam pangan jajanannya.
