Plak terbentuk dikarenakan adanya bakteri, seperti Staphlyococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginoda dan Escherichia coli. Pembentukan plak dapat dikontrol dengan cara mekanik dan kimiawi. Untuk mengontrol pembentukan plak dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan bahan alami yang mengandung antibakteri, salah satu tumbuhan yang mengandung antibakteri adalah buah senduduk (Melastoma Malabathricum L.) tumbuhan ini memiliki kandungan senyawa saponin, flavonoid dan tannin yang merupakan senyawa kimia dan memiliki potensi sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan : Mengetahui efektivitas pasta buah senduduk (Melastoma Malabathricum L.) terhadap kolonisasi bakteri pembentuk plak. Metode : penelitian ini menggunakan true experiment dengan rancangan pre dan post test control group design, dalam penelitian ini jumlah sampel dihitung menggunakan rumus Federer dan di pilih secara acak. Data analisis menggunakan Two Way Anova. Hasil : Berdasarkan kelompok perlakuan nilai 0.000<0.050. Maka disimpulkan berdasarkan kelompok perlakuan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap jumlah hasil. Berdasarkan kelompok waktu nilai 0.248>0.050. Maka disimpulkan berdasarkan kelompok waktu tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap jumlah hasil. Berdasarkan kelompok perlakuan dan waktu (simultan/ bersama-sama) nilai Sig adalah 0.000<0.050. Maka dapat disimpulkan berdasarkan kelompok perlakuan waktu berpengaruh signifikan terhadap hasil jumlah. Kesimpulan : pasta buah senduduk (Melastoma Malabathricum L.) dapat menghambat kolonisasi bakteri (jumlah bakteri) pembentuk plak dengan cara pengolesan diseluruh permukaan gigi pada perlakuan 0 jam sampai dengan 4 jam. Hypertension is a condition in which a person experiences an increase in blood pressure above normal which results in an increase in morbidity and mortality The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of giving garlic boiled water on blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension at the Harapan Kita Elderly Social Institution in Palembang City. This study uses a quasi-experimental research design with a non-equivalent control group design. The sampling technique in this study was non-porbality sampling with a purposive sampling approach. With a sample of 15 respondents in the intervention group and 15 respondents in the control group. Analysis of the data in this study used the Mann Withney U statistical test. Based on the results of the analysis using the Mann Withney U parametric test, the average blood pressure before and after administration of garlic boiled water with p Value = 0.000 for systolic blood pressure and p Value = 0.002 for diastolic blood pressure., where the p value of systolic and diastolic blood pressure is smaller than the value of (0.05) which means that there is a significant effect between the administration of garlic boiled water and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. There is a significant difference in the average blood pressure before and after giving garlic boiled water.
