Bila status gizi ibu normal kemungkinan besar akan melahirkan bayi yang sehat, cukup bulan dengan berat badan normal. Menurut Riskesdas (2010) presentase berat badan bayi lahir di Sumatera Utara sebesar 8,2 % dengan berat badan <2500gr, sedangkan 80,4% dengan berat badan 2500-4000 gr dan 11,3% bayi dengan berat >4000 gr. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi hubungan pertambahan berat badan ibu selama hamil dengan berat badan lahir. Penelitian menggunakan desain analitik korelasional. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 63 responden. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan total sampling. Penelitian dilakukan di Klinik Bersalin Sumiariani Kecamatan Medan Johor. Analisis data yang digunakan Chi Square dengan taraf signifikasi (α) 0,05. Berdasarkan analisis diperoleh nilai P=0,000 berarti adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara pertambahan berat badan ibu selama hamil dengan berat badan lahir dengan nilai OR=27 berarti ibu dengan pertambahan berat badan sesuai selama hamil memiliki peluang 27 kali melahirkan bayi dengan berat badan normal dibandingkan dengan ibu yang memiliki pertambahan berat badan tidak sesuai selama kehamilan. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat dibuktikan bahwa pertambahan berat badan ibu selama hamil sangat berpengaruh terhadap berat badan bayi yang akan dilahirkannya. Sehingga setiap ibu hamil harus mengerti tentang asupan gizi yang baik selama masa kehamilan. Diharapkan dapat dijadikan masukan bagi instansi kesehatan dalam upaya menangani masalah-masalah kesehatan di masyarakat terutama masalah asupan gizi ibu hamil sehingga dapat menurunkan angka kejadian BBLR di lingkungan masyarakat.
